Kimiko
Let's start with the most obscure character in Lucid Blocks, at least so far. Kimiko is pretty much completely untalked about- Google's AI overview function straight up doesn't believe she exists and Lucidpedia documents her one cutscene with no additional context. It's pretty easy to see why nobody talks about this character- she doesn't seem to have a lot going in the final game but as I'll highlight in further detail, there's a lot of weird stuff that suggests that she was meant to at least have a role similar to Alma if not larger.
In the closed beta test, Kimiko was one of the two cutscenes to have branching paths, in addition to Alma. I don't have access to the closed beta test build so I don't know if the cutscene names are accurate or not, but there's a pretty large difference in how Kimiko is presented, namely that she is presented as a character, period.
In a effort to save all her lines from this footage and then break them down later, I'll collect them here so they can be dissected. While the narrative of Lucid Blocks is kind of unclear if nonexistant, there may be something to gleam from at least Kimiko's character from this footage so I'll do my best to transcribe these.
HELLO?
DAMN IT.
DID YOU REALLY THINK NOW WAS A GOOD TIME TO PAY ME A VISIT?
HAD YOU INTERRUPTED ME A LITTLE EARLIER, THIS SHIT BLOB WOULDN'T HAVE CAUGHT ME!
[ > ]I'M SORRY
[ > ]HOW IS THAT MY FAULT?
WHAT? SPEAK UP, DAMMIT! I CAN ONLY HEAR THE SINGING!
DON'T LOOK AT ME LIKE I'M NUTS, I KNOW YOU CAN HEAR IT TOO. CAN YOU TURN IT OFF?
...
UGH, DON'T EVEN BOTHER. YOU'RE JUST LIKE THOSE USELESS TWO LEGGED BEAR THINGS.
...
BUT THESE GUYS...
THEY MUST HOLD A GRUDGE AGAINST THE CURIOUS TYPE.
DO THEY THINK IT'S MY FAULT THEIR OLD MAN ATE THE CRUD?
THEY KEEP COMING FOR ME.
WHY ME?
YOU'VE SEEN 'EM BEFORE TOO, RIGHT?
[ > ] YES
[ > ] NO
LIKE I FUCKING SAID, SPEAK UP!
I CAN'T STOP THE SINGING!
SCREW THIS! SCREW YOU!
I'LL FIND A WAY OUT, BY MYSELF.
HERE, I'LL GIVE YOU A LITTLE TREAT FOR BEING SO USEFUL!
NOW PISS OFF!
Overall we really get a much different image of Kimiko here than we do in the final game, which you might not even realize is her- she's abrasive, she's constantly cursing, she's been crucified when we meet her but she is extremely stubborn and not willing to let us off the hook for our inaction. She's also bothered by noises only she can hear (the cutscene does not have any singing or voices, instead just a fairly normal ambient track) and seems already familiar with us and may even seem to have some connections with the antagonists of the game, already having met the Bubblebears for certain with other mentioned characters being vague.
For a seemingly bunch of disconnected but important plot beats, it's odd that she seems mostly absent in the final project with no connection to any of this, yet the oddities keep building from there. She's currently the only object in the game marked as using the PSX shader material aside from the fractal objects in her cutscene and one of the very few characters to actually have bones, as all the vermin use shapekeys, procedural animation, or some other methodology to get around and animate. Her model file also needs to be compiled in godot itself before it can be used, unlike some others that used Blockbench or had geometry like Moccos.
Kimiko also has one element in common with the player in that she uses real photography for her face, of which I have yet to identify. The resolution is too small to reverse search and unlike the Kali which also utilize hands, she can be found in a normal playthrough and can be argubably required for completion. I'm throwing a lot here but entities in Lucid Blocks are often linked through themes and mediums, which makes the ones with no clear correlation all the more standout. Given her familiarity with the player, I couldn't help but wonder.
Overall there's very little else said about Kimiko by anyone- I have the feeling this is because very few people dig through the uncompiled project as much as I do, but I also don't think it's been as documented as it would be if there was say, a Cutting Room floor article or any sort of avenue to talk about these sorts of things. Lucidpedia covers some of these cut content but often not to any further extent than necessary. I'll update this when or if I can find more information on this topic.
